Honors & Special Recognitions
These individuals' lives and ministries should reflect a faithful example of the five core values of CIU. These are: Authority of Scripture, Victorious Christian Living, World Evangelization, Prayer and Faith, and Evangelical Unity.
It is our sincere desire in presenting the Alumni of the Year Awards that God may receive praise and glory for the display of His grace and faithfulness in the lives of the recipients. We would commend each honoree as an "example to the believers" in character, excellence, and in faithfulness to the high calling, "To Know Him and To Make Him Known."
This honor is bestowed by the Director of Alumni Ministries at his/her discretion. This award is made by the Director to honor those who have given support that encouraged and enhanced the effective ministry of the Alumni staff towards all CIU alumni.
This honor recognizes outstanding achievement and commitment by a faculty or staff person. If the honored faculty or staff member is not already an alumnus, this recognition would be accompanied by honorary alumni status.
The service and ministry for which the honor is given should be above and beyond the normal expectations of their position, i.e. student mentoring and counsel, devoted prayer for CIU as part of organized prayer team, authoring materials beyond the classroom preparation, volunteer participation, etc. It should be one of whom it is said, "I thought they were a CIU alumnus."
This honor recognizes an alumna or alumnus (not necessary to be a graduate) who is a public figure and comes to CIU to speak at CIU's Chapel service or other public gathering, besides Homecoming. Their high-profile presence is due to being an evangelist, author, musician, ministry leader, etc. They must currently be serving in this role to be honored.
This honor is biblically based on I Timothy 4:12 (ESV). "Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity." This honor will be given to a recent graduate who has made their mark early in service for the Lord. This honor can be granted any year within, or near to, the first 10 years since the honoree's graduation.
